Your journey begins with pick-up in Arusha, followed by a drive to Tarangire National Park for your first safari experience. Tarangire is one of the most rewarding parks on Tanzania’s Northern Circuit and is especially known for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and peaceful safari atmosphere. It is a beautiful place to begin the trip because it offers excellent wildlife viewing in a scenic setting. Tanzania’s official tourism materials highlight Tarangire as one of the country’s leading safari parks.
After entering the park, you will begin your game drive and explore landscapes dotted with baobabs, open plains, and seasonal river areas that attract a wide range of animals. You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, and many bird species. If luck is on your side, you may also spot lions or leopards as you move through the park.
Later in the afternoon, you will leave the park and head to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, you will depart for Serengeti National Park, one of the world’s most famous safari destinations. The journey takes you through changing scenery and eventually opens into the vast plains that have made Serengeti legendary. Official Tanzania tourism descriptions note that the Serengeti is known for its massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra and for its extraordinary wildlife viewing throughout the year.
As you enter the park, you will begin a game drive on the way to your lodge or camp. This is not just a transfer day, but a real safari experience, with chances to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and many other species. The open plains, dramatic skies, and constant possibility of wildlife sightings make the journey into Serengeti one of the highlights of the trip.
You will arrive at your accommodation in time for dinner and overnight in the Serengeti.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today is dedicated to exploring the Serengeti in more depth with a full day game drive. This gives you time to enjoy one of Africa’s most iconic safari landscapes without rushing. Depending on the season and wildlife movement, you may encounter large herds of wildebeest and zebra, as well as predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards. Tanzania’s tourism board describes Serengeti as a world wonder where the Great Migration unfolds across endless golden plains filled with wildlife and dramatic predator-prey encounters.
A full day in the park also gives you more time to appreciate the scale of the landscape and the rhythm of life on the plains. You may see elephant herds crossing open ground, giraffes moving through scattered acacia trees, and birdlife throughout the area. You will stop for a picnic lunch during the day and continue your game drive into the afternoon before returning to your camp or lodge.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, you will enjoy a final morning game drive in Serengeti before continuing toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This drive still forms part of the safari and often offers memorable sightings along the way. As you leave the Serengeti plains behind, the landscape gradually changes into the cooler highlands of Ngorongoro.
By late afternoon, you will arrive at your lodge or camp near the crater area. This part of the journey offers a different atmosphere from the Serengeti, with beautiful highland views and a quieter setting before the next day’s crater safari.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After an early breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive in one of Tanzania’s most remarkable natural settings. The crater is widely recognized as one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a compact and dramatic landscape. Tanzania’s official tourism site describes Ngorongoro as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a natural amphitheatre of wildlife and wonder.
Inside the crater, you may encounter lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, elephants, and if luck is on your side, the rare black rhino. The mix of grassland, swamp, woodland, and lake areas makes the crater especially rewarding for both wildlife viewing and photography. After a picnic lunch and final game drive, you will return for your onward transfer and take your domestic flight to Zanzibar, where a completely different side of Tanzania begins. Tanzania’s official tourism content specifically positions Zanzibar as a natural coast-and-culture extension after safari.
On arrival in Zanzibar, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Today is dedicated to rest and relaxation on the island. After several days of safari, Zanzibar offers a complete change of pace with turquoise waters, swaying palms, and white-sand beaches. Tanzania’s official tourism site highlights Zanzibar’s beaches for swimming, relaxing, and unforgettable sunsets, and promotes the island as a perfect place to unwind after safari.
You may choose to spend the day enjoying the beach, swimming in the ocean, or simply relaxing at your resort. This slower rhythm is part of what makes the bush-and-beach combination so appealing, allowing travelers to end their journey with comfort and calm after the excitement of the safari circuit.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
This day gives you more time to enjoy Zanzibar at your own pace. Depending on your preferences, you can simply relax at the beach or choose to add optional island activities such as a Stone Town visit, spice tour, dhow cruise, or cultural exploration. Tanzania’s official tourism site highlights Zanzibar for its combination of sea, culture, spice heritage, dhow experiences, and Swahili cuisine, making it much more than just a beach destination.
This balance of relaxation and optional cultural discovery is what makes Zanzibar such a strong complement to the safari experience. Whether you spend the day by the water or exploring a little more of the island’s atmosphere, this is a chance to fully enjoy Tanzania’s coastal side.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
After breakfast, you will have time to enjoy a relaxed morning depending on your flight schedule. At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, marking the end of your Safari & Zanzibar Escape.
This journey combines the excitement of Tanzania’s wildlife with the beauty and ease of island life, leaving you with a well-rounded and unforgettable travel experience. Tanzania’s tourism board actively markets this exact safari-and-coast combination as one of the country’s standout travel styles.
