Your journey begins with a transfer to the airport for your scheduled domestic flight to Nyerere National Park. One of the biggest advantages of this safari is the fly-in approach, which allows you to reach the southern wilderness quickly and comfortably, avoiding long road transfers. From the air, the changing landscapes already begin to introduce you to the scale and remoteness of this remarkable part of Tanzania.
On arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by your guide or lodge representative and transferred to your camp or lodge. Depending on your flight timing, you may enjoy lunch and some time to relax before heading out for your first safari activity. This may be an afternoon game drive or, depending on the camp program, a boat safari on the Rufiji River system.
Nyerere is known for feeling wild, spacious, and much less crowded than the more famous northern parks. TANAPA highlights the park for its vast wilderness, relatively undisturbed ecological processes, and the mighty Rufiji River, which is a major attraction and a key part of the safari experience.
After your first taste of the southern circuit, you will return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, you will head out for a full day game drive in Nyerere National Park. This is your chance to explore one of Tanzania’s most impressive wilderness areas in greater depth and enjoy the feeling of being in a safari destination that still feels remote and uncrowded.
The park is known for its strong numbers of elephants, buffaloes, and lions, and TANAPA also notes that the broader Nyerere-Selous ecosystem remains one of the last true strongholds for African wild dogs. As you move through the park, you may also encounter giraffes, zebras, impalas, crocodiles, hippos, and a wide range of birdlife depending on the area and season.
A full day here is especially rewarding because Nyerere is not only about seeing animals, but also about experiencing a huge, living landscape shaped by river channels, floodplains, woodland, and open safari terrain. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush and continue your exploration into the afternoon before returning to camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today offers one of the special experiences that makes Nyerere different from many other safari destinations in Tanzania — a boat safari. TANAPA specifically states that Nyerere offers one of the widest diversities of safari activities in the country, including boating safaris in addition to standard game drives, walking safaris, and fly camping.
Exploring by boat gives you a completely different perspective of the park. As you move along the river and water channels, you may see hippos resting in the water, crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks, and elephants or buffaloes coming to drink. The slower pace of a boat safari also makes it excellent for photography and for appreciating the landscapes and birdlife in a more relaxed way.
Later in the day, you may have time to relax at the camp, enjoy the views, or join another short safari activity depending on your lodge program. This balance of adventure and quiet wilderness is one of the things that makes Nyerere especially attractive for couples, repeat safari travelers, and anyone looking for a more exclusive southern circuit experience.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, and depending on your flight schedule, you may enjoy a final short safari activity or a relaxed morning at camp before your transfer to the airstrip. This last part of the journey gives you time to take in the atmosphere of the park one more time before returning to the city.
You will then board your domestic flight back, marking the end of your 4-day Nyerere Fly-In Safari. TANAPA presents Nyerere as a destination where visitors can enjoy both exceptional wildlife and a broad range of safari styles in a vast southern wilderness.
